The story follows Loretta McLaughlin (Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper, who becomes the first reporter to connect the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta tries to continue her investigation together with her colleague and confidant Jean Cole (Coon), but the couple is hindered by the rampant sexism of the time. However, McLaughlin and Cole bravely continue the story at the risk of their own lives, risking their own lives in their quest to uncover the truth…
