‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’: The post-credit scenes

What does Marvel leave for the end of the sequel?

Like all the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is always a good gift at the end and “Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness” was not going to be less.

Although it may be a film that stands out for being in tune with the films of the horror genre, the result has been very enjoyable for both Marvel fans and Sam Raimi fans. And besides, you have to know where you’re starting from to fully understand the full impact of the film. Go back to see ‘WandaVision’ and ‘What If…?’ would be a good starting point.

With the new Doctor Strange movie, the multiverse really expands and that shows the scenes that Marvel leaves at the end of the last film released.

First scene: New character in Marvel

The mid-credits scene begins with Doctor Strange leisurely strolling down the street. His peace is interrupted by the arrival of a surprise character through a portal, which he plays Charlize Theron.

This character tells Strange that “he caused a raid that needs to be fixed…unless you’re scared.” Revealing his new third eye (as a result of his use of the Darkhold at the end of the film), Strange reveals that of course he is not afraid and heads off on this new mission.

What role does Theron have? At no time does the scene reveal who Theron plays, but everything indicates that, as has been rumored, the actress plays Cleawho in the comics is Strange’s love interest.

        Charlize Theron

Clea first appeared in Strange Tales #126 and is the daughter of Prince Orini, heir to the Dark Dimension, and Umar, sister of Dormammu, (seen in the first installment of Doctor Strange). In the comics, Strange and Clea first met when she went into the Dark Dimension to fight Dormammu, who was trying to take over Earth. Clea aided Strange in his battle and the pair fell in love.

Back on Earth, Clea lost her sorceress powers and studied in the Sanctum Sanctorum to get them back. When Strange became the Sorcerer Supreme, Clea became his official disciple in the mystic arts, but eventually returned to the Dark Dimension to join the rebellion to overthrow Umar. Clea won and claimed the rule of the Dark Dimension. During her reign, the pair were married in the Dark Dimension, but could never really be together as Strange was needed on Earth and Clea faced the constant threat of Dormammu in the Dark Dimension.

It’s unlikely we’ll see this story in the MCU, especially since Strange defeated Dormammu in the first movie. But who knows.

At the moment nothing is known about this possible third part and that at the end of the tape it is warned that Doctor Strange will return. What seems certain is that Clea will appear at Strange’s side in that new raid that seems to have its starting point here: that “possible” third movie will probably see Strange in another multiverse-jumping adventure to stop the destruction of a universe. Another issue is how Clea will develop, given that things with Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) seem not to have reached a definite point.

Second scene: for fans of the director

In the second post-credits, it could be one of those gag-type scenes that Marvel has sometimes delighted with… Except if you’re a fan of Sam Raimi and his movies.

The scene is very brief and in it you see Bruce CampbellSam Raimi’s fetish actor, seen in films by the filmmaker such as ‘The Possession of Hell’, ‘Terrifyingly Dead’ or ‘The Army of Darkness’ among others.

At this point in the movie, we already know who he is. In the film, Doctor Strange and America Chavez meet his character, a seller of pizza balls… As America has no money to pay him, Strange solves the ballot by bewitching him, slapping himself.

Unfortunately for him, the spell has Campbell slapping himself for a long time. At this point in the film, we see that the spell finally wears off and the vendor is released from the torment. He looks directly into the camera and exclaims, “It’s over!”

Without a doubt it is one of those humorous scenes that Marvel offers from time to time, in which more than giving information, it offers entertainment for the fans. And specifically, in this case more for fans of horror and the filmmaker.
