“Pedro Pascal and I rewrote the whole scene”
The sixth episode of ‘The Last of Us’ transported us to Jackson, Wyoming, to give us the expected reunion between Joel and Tommythe brothers separated at the beginning of the HBO Max series that is breaking all records on the platform this beginning of the year.
The embrace between the characters of Pedro Pascal and Gabriel Luna has shown us Joel excited and happy as we have never seen him in previous episodesbut the joy has quickly turned into reproaches and discussions about the past and the future of their common history.
The actor gabriel moonwhom we had not seen since the pilot episode, wanted to delve into an interview with Entertainment Weekly about him why tommy decided to leave boston and about its history so far.
The first episode of ‘The Last of Us’ presents Tommy as a carefree man, who gets into bar fights, and even ends up in jail. Tommy witnesses Sarah’s death and saves Joel’s life. but since then we haven’t heard much from him other than that he was in radio communication with Joel and that the signal had suddenly gone dead. Joel goes so far as to tell Ellie about her brother’s military career and that he joined the Fireflies after coming to Boston.
Luna develops about the character’s past: “When they arrive in Boston, violence and mistrust increaseand he had to find a place to put his fighting skills to good use, but also to restore his life, his joy and his reason for living, not just surviving.” He added: “So, in my opinion, joins the Fireflies and realizes at some point that the killing doesn’t stop. In fact, it probably increased exponentially.”
Luna further reveals that he Merle Dandridge, who plays the leader of the Fireflies, Marlene, talked about a possible relationship between their characters. “In my mind, he and Marlene probably had something on their hands and it was probably cut short by her achieving so much responsibility as the leader of the Fireflies in the Boston quarantine zone,” Luna explains. “There are a limited number of times you can wake up each morning to see the woman you love realizing that you thing isn’t working.”
Regarding the chemistry with Pedro Pascal in the discussion that Joel and Tommy have in the Jackson commune, the interpreter has revealed that “In that session, Pedro and I completely rewrote the scene. We didn’t change a single letter, but we restructured the way the whole sequence plays out.”
“It made me feel good about how we handle each other’s rhythms, how I eventually build up the courage to face Joel and tell him the truth, tell him something extremely joyful for me but potentially painful for him: to hear that I am going to be a father.”
Luna adds, “That was pretty much the only scene on the board all day. Just Pedro and I, like brothers, doing what brothers do: laugh, joke, poke each other and… Sometimes, fight“.
