Italian citizens are on average 48 years old

A study released by the statistics office of the European Union (Eurostat) has shown that Italy is the country with the oldest population on the continent, with an average age of 48 years.

According to the survey, the average age of EU citizens has increased by at least 0.3 years compared to 2021, reaching the threshold of 44.4 years.

If we take into account the last decade, the average age of the citizens of the countries that are part of the European bloc has increased by 2.5 years, i.e. half of the local population is over 44.4 years old, while the other part is younger.

The only EU country that did not see the median age of its population increase was Sweden, where it went from 40.8 years in 2012 to 40.7 in 2022.

With a percentage of 37.5%, Italy also takes the lead in the ranking for number of elderly people, surpassing Finland (37.4%) and Portugal (37.2%), while the lowest is recorded in Luxembourg ( 21.3%). .
