The Italian drama series “The Good Mothers”, developed for the Disney+ streaming platform, won the Berlinale Series Award, the first prize of the Berlin Film Festival dedicated to series.
Created by Stephen Butchard (“Central Baghdad”), the attraction tells the true story of three women involved in an Italian mafia family. who worked together with a female prosecutor to bring down the criminal empire.
The series is directed by Julian Jarrold (“Sulphur and White”) and Elisa Amoruso (“Game of Love”) and stars Gaia Girace (“A Amiga Genial”), Valentina Bellè (“I want to be a Rock Star”), Barbara Chichiarelli (“The gymnasts”), Simona Distefano (“The missing Vatican girl”) and Micaela Ramazzotti (“7 women and a mystery”).
“The creators of the series have meticulously recreated an authentic and detailed world, presented by an all-star cast, with performances that took our breath away,” the judging panel said in a statement. “The beautiful cinematography, set design and locations all contribute to the ultra-realistic feel of the series, which is very fitting considering it is based on true events.”
