The CEO of HBO confirms the premiere date of season 2 of ‘The House of the Dragon’, and it is bad news

Don’t expect to return to Westeros during 2023

Filming of the second season of ‘The House of the Dragon’ should begin this springthe successful spin-off of ‘Game of Thrones’ that was one of the best series of 2022 and that exceeded expectations (which were already high in itself) after its premiere on HBO Max in the second half of the year.

The extreme city of cacerescharacterized as King’s Landing in the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe, will host the series team again between March and June 2023, although the shooting itself is only scheduled for a few weeks in April and May.

With these dates in mind, it was logical to think that the series would not return in 2023 after the end of season 1 of ‘The House of the Dragon’, and now the CEO of HBO content Casey Bloys has confirmed the fateful news. We will have to wait, surely, until the summer of 2024.

The director of HBO has declared to Variety that “summer 2024 is a good guess” for the return of Rhaenyra, Daemon and company, and that they do not want to rush things but rather find good scripts to match the series that won the Golden Globe in 2023.

My philosophy is that a good script is the number one priority.Bloys said. “I’m not doing it based on wanting to have a series every year or every two years. I want to do it based on the scripts that we are most excited about.”

This also affects the ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-offs, since we remember that HBO canceled the first of them, ‘Bloodmoon’, even after the pilot with Naomi Watts as the protagonist had been filmed. “Remember that before ‘The House of the Dragon’ we developed several series, we filmed a pilot, we developed a lot of scripts and finally we got ‘The House of the Dragon’“. Explains Bloys. “Doing that again will require the same amount of effort. You have to develop a lot of things, test things. you never know what will work. So we’re currently doing that. I am not opposed to any number of shows. There’s probably a natural limit, but I’m open to anyone as long as we feel good about the scripts and perspectives of a series.”

Takes a while to get one that hits the mark”, he ends up adding. “I know George [RR Martin] feel the same. You want to make one that everyone is really proud and excited about.”
