Focus Features has released the first trailer for “A Thousand and One,” the independent drama that won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
The preview shows some similarities with the film “Moonlight: Sob a Luz do Luar” (2016), such as the narration of different stages in the protagonist’s life, highlighting his relationship with his stepfather.
The plot accompanies Inez (Teyana Taylor, from “A Prince in New York 2”), a working woman who becomes embroiled in legal troubles and loses custody of her young son. Seeing that the baby has been put up for adoption, Inez decides to kidnap him, so that the two can rebuild a family.
The cast also includes William Catlett (“Black Lightning”), Terri Abney (“Bolden”) and actors Aaron Kingsley Adetola (“Rise”), Aven Courtney (“Frankensitter”) and Josiah Cross (“King Richard: Creating Champions” ), who play the protagonist’s son in three different stages of his life.
“A Thousand and One” marks the feature film debut of short film director AV Rockwell and will be released in theaters on March 31st. There are no predictions yet for the debut in Brazil.
