Disney Plus should reduce the catalog of films and series

After the difficult decision to lay off about 7,000 employees, Disney is planning to reduce its streaming content on the Disney Plus platform.

The two moves depend on current CEO Bob Iger, who is also working on a new division among Disney products, with three categories: Disney Entertainment, ESPN and Disney Parks Experiences and Products.

This new cut should directly affect Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige, current head of Marvel, has hinted that they will release less content on the platform and that what already exists will be distributed, but did not go into detail on how this will work.

“The pace at which we release Disney+ shows will change so that each of them gets a chance to shine,” Feige said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Another important factor that will direct the platform towards a new way of enjoying content will be the return of Star Wars, which will be a big bet for Disney, perhaps one of the biggest in recent years. The company’s plans with the film franchise will be revealed during the “Star Wars Celebration” event in April.

This new cut will also affect animations that are underperforming in theaters, such as Pixar’s Lightyear and Disney Animation’s Strange World, which was a box office disaster. The entertainment giant is also working on ways to encourage audiences to return to theaters.
