Many horror movies are based on true events or inspired by scary events, such as the case of Father Gabriele Amorth in “The Pope’s Exorcist” played by Russell Crowe.
In the new film, Crowe as Amorth is called by the Holy See to investigate the terrifying possession of a child, but ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy that the Vatican wants to cover up.
The film directed by Julius Avery and distributed by Sony Pictures already has an official trailer and poster, where you can see Russel Crowe transforming into Father Gabriele Amorth.
- Russell Crowe also starred in the movie “The Shadow of Power” which you can watch on ViX+, ViX’s premium streaming service.
Russell Crowe is the exorcist of the Vatican in ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’: see what he’s like
In the trailer for “The Pope’s Exorcist” Father Gabriele Amorth is introduced as a figure who works for the Pope in Rome and, although other members of the Church do not take him too seriously, he is sent to solve a certain possession.
In the movie the actor ‘Gladiator’ (which you can watch on ViX+) the devil inside a child’s body will be found to be part of a very ancient evil that the Vatican itself wanted to keep secret.
Within the plot, Russell Crowe’s character explains that 98 percent of the cases he deals with are people with mental health issues, but the remaining 2 percent are actually cases where Satan and demons are involved.
Something that stands out about this horror film is that it is based on true events, as Gabriele Amorth was a real Italian priest, exorcist of the Diocese of Rome and founder of the International Association of Exorcists.
Father Gabriele Amorth was a priest who acted as the Vatican’s chief exorcist and who, from 1986 until his death in 2016 at the age of 91, performed more than 100,000 exorcisms.
The Italian Catholic father wrote a couple of memoirs: “An Exorcist Tells His Story” and “An Exorcist: More Stories”, in which he captured in lavish detail the experiences you from fighting Satan.
The movie “The Pope’s Exorcist” is inspired by the writings of Gabriele Amorth and tells a fictional case where the priest and a local father come across a terrifying case, which exposes the Vatican’s relationship with ancient demons.
“The Pope’s Exorcist” directed by Julius Acery, starring Russell Crowe, Franco Nero, Laurel Marsden, Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, Cornell S. John and Ralph Ineson opens on April 14, 2023.
