The Showtime series left us speechless in its last episode and we already counted the hours until the arrival of season 2: we reviewed everything that happened in the finale of the first season of ‘Yellowjackets’.
‘YELLOWJACKETS’ SEASON 1 SPOILERS BELOW
We have not yet passed the end of the first season of ‘Yellowjackets’, one of the best series of the moment and whose second season is just around the corner. It’s the perfect time to review everything that happened in that outcome, both with the young women fighting for their survival in 1996 and with their adult versions, dealing with the consequences of their past in 2021.
With a two-part story, ‘Yellowjackets’ has built a mystery full of unanswered questions that is among the best suspense series to get hooked on. We still don’t know who the woman who dies in the first scene of the series is, nor how many of the girls on the team are still alive in 2021, nor what the hell is this religious sect that operates in the shadows and could be behind some of the murders we have seen in history. Fortunately, The ‘Yellowjackets’ season 1 finale offered us some clues and some surprising revelations that will be important for the future.
The ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 1 Finale Explained
The 1×10 episode of ‘Yellowjackets’ comes after several events and discoveries in the two temporal moments in which the series takes place.
How does the first season of ‘Yellowjackets’ end in 1996?
In the year 1996, adolescents live the consequences of what happened in ‘Doomcoming’, a party to which they put on their best dresses and which ended in disaster because of Misty’s magic mushrooms. Jackie is the only one who didn’t eat the same as the others, and that’s why she was the main one affected by the strange behavior of the others, especially since they considered her responsible for bringing misfortune to the group for having sex with Travis, who is in trouble. actually in love with Natalie. Completely drugged, the soccer teammates attacked both of them (Shauna nearly slits Travis’s throat) and now tension reigns at camp.
In addition, it gives the feeling that something evil has been unleashed, represented by the start of a religious sect that Lottie seems to be leading, and that takes us back to the first images of the series. In fact, Lottie claims to have had revealing visions and faith in something supernatural within the forest begins to spread within the group.. It’s the last straw for Jackie, who questions the sanity of her teammates.
So the group turns their backs on her and, feeling rejected and still hurt to find out that her best friend Shauna was sleeping with her boyfriend Jeff (and, to make matters worse, she’s expecting his child), she decides to spend the night. out of the cabin sulking. Just that night a heavy snowfall falls, and the next morning her companions find Jackie frozen to death..
As Shauna regrets not making it up to her before going to sleep, Lottie, Misty and Van take the heart of the bear they have hunted to a kind of altar, hinting at what is to come in the future of the story.: a descent into cannibalism and the creation of a kind of pagan cult that will cost the lives of more than one member of the group. Thus, several questions remain unresolved. For example, where is Javi, Travis’s little brother, who disappears during ‘Doomcoming’?
How does the first season of ‘Yellowjackets’ end in 2021?
In the year 2021, the adult versions of Shauna, Misty, Taissa and Natalie dispose of Adam’s lifeless body.. If we remember, Shauna had an extramarital affair with this mysterious artist until she, believing that she was responsible for the blackmail and threats that the ‘Yellowjakcets’ had been suffering, murdered him. Of course, later he discovers that he had nothing to do with it and that it was actually her husband, Jeff, who had prepared this pantomime to get a few nuts out of her wealthier companions. Understanding that she did it to get her family out of her way, Shauna forgives her and lies to her friends to help her make her body disappear. After a job well done They all attend the student meeting at the institute, where, as expected, they are the target of all eyes..
And that’s when things get interesting for the protagonists, with some revelations that pave the way for the second season. On the one hand, we see how Misty finally frees the private eye Jessica Roberts, to later poison her and end her life, lest she go on about how she has been kidnapped for several days. On the other hand, Shauna and Jeff’s secrets have brought them closer than ever, but their teenage daughter, Callie, seems to have stepped on the wrong foot. after seeing Adam’s disappearance on the news that there is something very dark about his mother. Perhaps this can bring consequences.
Of course, the big surprise at the end of ‘Yellowjackets’ is taken by the two remaining protagonists. Against all odds, Taissa wins the election for state senator over the conservative candidate, and she may have had help from supernatural forces. Her partner, Simone, finds an altar in the basement of the house with one of her son’s dolls, the decapitated head of her missing dog, and a human heart (presumably Adam’s). This would confirm that Taissa (consciously or through her strange double personality while she sleeps) is linked to the religious sect after so many years and is, in fact, the disturbing woman that little Simon saw stalking him through the window. The last image of Taissa shows us a somewhat macabre half smile that makes us think that she is more of a villain than a heroine in this story..
Finally, Natalie seems to finally accept Travis’s suicide and is about to do the same. However, before she can pull the trigger, a group of people break into her room and forcefully take her away. What is happening? These intruders wear the logo of the forest sect on her clothes, and one last detail leaves us speechless: In a voicemail, Natalie’s sponsor Suzie reveals that Travis’s bank account was drained after his death by a woman named Lottie.. Yes, that Lottie! So it was a murder. Slight cliffhanger. We need answers ASAP!
