The Brazilian side were 0-0 with Deportivo Maldonado and will define a place in the next stage at home
In a game without many emotions, but with the home team’s goal disallowed by the VAR, the Force scored an important draw with Deportivo Maldonado (URU), 0-0, at the Domingo Burgueño stadium, in Maldonado, Uruguay, for the first leg of the second phase of the Copa Libertadores 2023.
The teams will meet again next Thursday, at 21, this time in Castelão, in the capital of Ceará. The winner will qualify for the third stage. While a new draw will take the match to penalties.
Those who advance from this confrontation will face Curicó Unido (CHI) or Cerro Porteño (PAR). The Paraguayan team won the first match, 1-0, and has an advantage to continue in international competition.
As expected, the first half was full of few opportunities. In fact, Fortaleza fell short of expectations and got into trouble in the 21st minute, when the ball was left inside the area and Spinelli adjusted his shot for Toledo’s goal. Fortunately, the offer was revised and the referee disallowed the Uruguayan’s goal.
Little by little, Fortaleza managed to enter the marking and disengaged onto the pitch to reach the attack, albeit timidly. Before the break, in the 45th minute, Hércules went on the goal line and crossed for Thiago Galhardo, who didn’t get to the ball to finish.
In the second half, Fortaleza had a slight improvement and came with more danger. In the 23rd minute Pochettino receives a cross from the right from Tinga and his header ends up in the hands of goalkeeper Reyes. In the rest, the Brazilian team exchanged passes without effectiveness.
In the final stretch of the game, Deportivo Maldonado applied pressure for the win with many balls in the air, but goalkeeper Fernando Miguel won and managed to keep a goalless draw in Uruguay.
