In 2015, producer Scott Rudin scrambled to grab the rights to author Kazuo Ishiguro’s new historical novel. the buried giant. The film languished in development limbo, but in a recent interview with The telegraph on his Oscar nomination PinocchioGuillermo del Toro has said he plans to adapt the stop-motion book himself as a sequel. He has now officially confirmed that he is making the new film for Netflix.
Ishiguro’s book is set in a mythologized 5th-century Britain, where an elderly couple decides to embark on a journey in search of their son they haven’t seen for several years. Standing in the way of his seemingly simple quest, however, is a mysterious fog that envelops the land, causing amnesia in all its inhabitants. Trolls, orcs, dragons and giants are also a problem.
