In total, the two Peter Jackson trilogies based on the work of JRR Tolkien have generated more than $6 billion worldwide for Warner Bros. So perhaps it should come as no surprise to learn that parent company Warner Bros. Discovery has reached a deal to make more films.
To be clear, these planned new movies will be separate from The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, the animated story of the house of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary king of Rohan. This is already headed to the screens next April 12th.
While the news was just revealed by WBD CEO David Zaslav during a call to investors, there are understandably no details on where the new films are coming from, but let’s hope the company isn’t looking into the matter to do the same. old country (Second Age is probably banned too thanks to Prime Video’s big-budget TV series.)
As for the involvement of Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, nothing is official on that matter, though they did comment, “Warner Brothers and Embracer have kept us informed every step of the way,” the trio said. “We look forward to continuing to speak with them to hear their perspective on advancing the franchise.”
