Liam Neeson has weighed in on male actors and on-screen sex. “To be honest, when I see a sex scene, I can’t look at it. I’m embarrassed,” Neeson said. in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. “I know they’re choreographed and stuff, but I don’t need to see that.”

Choreographing sex scenes isn’t what it was in 1981, when Neeson first appeared on screen in “Excalibur.” Since then, Hollywood has begun to take into account the kinds of anxieties and power imbalances such scenes create, and some movies and series now employ “intimacy coordinators” to help prepare actors for such moments. However, Neeson is not in favor of seeing them, neither when other actors do nor, above all, when they ask him to.

Neeson spoke about the issue after a statement from ‘You’ Penn Badgley, who recently admitted his discomfort with on-screen sex and said that he was about to turn down his role in the series because of what was expected of his character. “It is important to me in my real life not to have them.
