Fabelmans: Which actor will portray a young Steven Spielberg?

With The Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg delivers an autobiographical family drama inspired by his early years. In this way, several topics are discussed, such as his love for cinema and family relationships. The film stars big names, including Paul Dano and Michelle Williams, but also Gabrielle LaBelle, who plays a teenage filmmaker.

The son of American producer and actor Rob LaBelle, Gabriel LaBelle was born on January 1, 2003, grew up in Vancouver, in a Jewish family. He became interested in theater at the age of eight when he was in the colony, performing in musicals such as underfoot or Aladdin. Since then, he plans to start a career in cinema and increase the number of castings.

Gabrielle LaBelle finds her first role in 2013 in the Canadian detective series Motive. Two years later, he appeared in an episode of iZombie. The young actor then starred in the dog family comedy Max 2: White House Hero (2017), the Predator reboot (2018) and the horror mini-series Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021).

In 2022, the Vancouver native finds a more important character in eight episodes of American Gigolo, starring Jon Bernthal. But above all, Gabriel plays the protagonist of The Fabelmans, an autobiographical drama directed by Steven Spielberg. He plays Sam Fabelman, a fictionalized version of ET the Extra-Trestrial’s famous director.

Gabriel LaBelle

“The hardest part was finding an actor who looked like me, and I think I scored one hell of a goal finding Gabriel, and then he scored goal after goal. I chose an insatiably curious guy because that’s a trait I’ve always had. And as a person, Gabriel is very curious.Steven Spielberg recalls.

In preparation, Gabriel practiced operating the Super 8 cameras that the filmmaker used as a teenager, as well as operating an editing table and using a film projector. If this apprenticeship was trying, the pride of overcoming these difficulties was fundamental to getting into the skin of the character.
