‘The Lord of the Rings’ will return to the cinema with new films

Tolkien’s Middle-earth will continue to be squeezed on the big screen after the Amazon Prime Video series

Warner and New Line have reached an agreement to produce new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies based on Tolkien’s Middle-earthin an announcement that could be seen coming but that is nonetheless a surprising bombshell considering the Divided acceptance of the Amazon Prime Video series ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ despite its large budget.

The announcement is a blow to the table for Warner to try to recapture its glory years in the early 2000s with franchises like ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘Harry Potter’ (for which they are also seeking a new deal) and the ‘Dark Knight’ by Christopher Nolan.

The original trilogy grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide. and it was a complete success with the public and critics, and its conclusion ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ made history by winning 11 Oscars among which was included the one for Best Film and Best Director, awarded to Peter Jackson.

Jackson, responsible for that trilogy and that of ‘The Hobbit‘He wanted to point out that Warner and the Embracer Group, the company that maintains the film rights to the novels, have kept him informed of the negotiations and the intentions of both companies. “We look forward to continuing to speak with them to hear their views on moving the franchise forward.”, has declared the director making a clear reference to Amazon Prime Video and its series ‘The Rings of Power’. The filmmaker recently revealed that Amazon asked him for advice on the series set in Middle-earth but never contacted him again.

For their part, the companies involved have issued a couple of statements full of good intentions… but little information.

Lee Guinchardwhich is part of Embracer, has assured that “We plan to honor the past, look to the future and adhere to the highest level of quality and production values”, while the directors of Warner Bros. Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdy stated that “Twenty years ago, New Line took an unprecedented leap of faith to bring incredible stories featuring the characters and world of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ to the big screen. The result was a landmark series of films that have been embraced by generations of fans. But for all the scope and detail lovingly presented in the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by JRR Tolkien remains largely unexplored in the film. The opportunity to invite fans deeper into the cinematic world of Middle-earth is an honor, and we are excited to partner with Middle-earth Enterprises and Embracer on this adventure.”

New Line Cinema already had a animated film set for April 2024 about ‘The War of the Rohirrim’. This is everything we know about ‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’: release date, cast, synopsis and more.
