Warning, spoilers. The following paragraphs will reveal plot elements from The Mandalorian and the Boba Fett book.
The long-awaited Season 3 of The Mandalorian arrives on Disney+ on March 1st, and it promises an epic new adventure for Dean Jarrin. In order to regain his former status in his clan, the hero, played by Pedro Pascal, will also return to his home planet of Mandalore.
The Mandalorian broke the rules and was written off by himself after notably removing his helmet and revealing his face. A former lone hunter armed with a black flashlight must embark on an epic new journey across the galaxy, where he will encounter old allies and new enemies as the New Republic fights to break free from the galaxy’s dark history.
Fortunately for him, the Mandalorian will be able to rely on the help of his little companion Grog, who he abandoned anyway and left to Luke Skywalker so he could follow his Jedi training at the end of season two.
How did The Mandalorian and Grogu team up before Season 3?
So how come Grogu is in The Mandalorian Season 3? The answer to that question can be found in another Star Wars series: The Boba Fett Book, available on Disney+. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend you catch up on episode three to find out how Dean Jarrin and Grogu ended up, but also the video recap below.
Recall that at the end of The Mandalorian season 2, Dean Jarrin became a bounty hunter again after defeating Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). Wielding the Black Lantern, he left Grogu, recently rescued, to join Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
He returns in Episode 5 of the Boba Fett book, soberly titled The Return of Mandalore. After the mission, Dean Jarrin visits Armor and Paz Vizla at the Mandalorian’s secret location to heal and inject the spear into Bescar to make tools for Grog, who he wants to see.
When he admits to the armor that he has already removed his helmet, he tells her that he is no longer a Mandalorian. He then travels to Mos Eisley on Tatooine to buy a new ship and finds Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), an ally of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), who asks for his help in the fight against the Pikes Syndicate.
Then comes Episode 6, titled “The Desert Stranger,” in which the Mandalorian goes to a forest planet where Luke Skywalker is training Grog. She finds Jedi Togruta Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), who advises her not to see her ex-boyfriend again so as not to hurt him.
So Mando goes to help Boba Fett and Fennec Shand against the pawns and asks for the help of Cobb Vant (Timothy Olyphant), with whom he will fight in particular Cad Bane, Duros and one of the most talented bounty hunters. In a dangerous galaxy. .
For his part, Grogu is faced with the dilemma posed by Luke Skywalker: should he take Yoda’s lightsaber, continue his training and be Luke’s first student, or accept the chain mail in Beskar that the Mandalorian left as a gift and join him in refusing the path. Jedi?
Then finally comes the seventh and final episode of the Boba Fett book, titled “In the Name of Honor”, in which Mando continues to fight the Pykes alongside Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. That’s when Grogu, having made a choice, steps into the middle of the battle to help his friend.
Together, they manage to rob the pawns, kill Cade Bane, and ensure that Fett and Shand win the spice trade war and the respect of the people of Mosespa. After this victory, Mando and Grogu embark on new adventures that will be revealed in season 3 of The Mandalorian.
Season 3 of The Mandalorian will air one episode per week on Disney+ starting March 1st.
