Shakira and Karol G have dedicated songs to their exes, and new song ‘TQG’ (You got big) is no exception, as it’s a message of empowerment with references to a famous movie.
The music video was released on February 24. In it, the Colombian singers dance with fire behind them, on a stage filled with snow and another with water, but what draws the most attention is the theme of television and “reality” that the video carries.
And it is that the “TQC” video has identical scenes to the 1998 film “The Truman Show”, directed by Peter Weir and starring Jim Carrey, where the artists are watched behind screens around the world.

Shakira and Karol G refer to ‘The Truman Show’ in ‘TQG’: that’s what it means
“The Truman Show” is a 1990s drama where Truman is the star of a “reality show” that broadcasts his life since birth, unaware that he lives among actors, extras and made-up stories.
Truman’s life is a lie to entertain the world on TV and although he seems to have always been happy, realizing that it is all an invention, he decides to put the deception behind him and take control of his life.
In the new video for Karol G’s song from the album “Mañana ser bonito”, Shakira and “La Bichota” reinforce the concept of the film by ceasing to live a fictional reality, in her case her relationship with Gerard Piqué and Anuel AA.
As in “The Truman Show” we can see how from squares, houses, bathrooms, airplanes and any place with a screen, people watch the life of Shakira and Karol G.
“The Truman Show” is one of those movies with a happy ending that isn’t so happy, and in the case of Karol G and Shakira’s music video, that’s also hinted at by recreating the final scene of Jim Carrey’s movie.
At the end of the film, Truman escapes the program through some stairs and a door at the back of the set (painted as if it were heaven), while the two singers do the same to get out of the lie they’ve been living. .
Also, the references to “The Truman Show” are a clear metaphor that the lives of artists and their relationships have become a kind of media circus, since everyone knows every move or word they say.
Finally, the ‘TQG’ music video doesn’t only have references to the film by Jim Carrey (who also appears in the “The Grinch” and you can see it on ViX+)it also has visual similarities to the science fiction film ‘Blade Runner’ and Quentin Tarantino’s action and revenge film ‘Kill Bill’.
