In Liaison, Vincent Cassel plays the lead role in the series for the first time. Indeed, the actor has only guest-starred in fiction in the past, most notably Westworld. Hence, the actor slips into the shoes of Gabriel, a spy/mercenary responsible for bringing back the French hackers at any cost.

Strong and evil, this ambivalent character, neither very beautiful nor very evil, but always quite likable, although he loses his abilities to his ex Alison, played by Eva Green. Sharing a difficult and sulphurous past, the relationship between the ex-lovers is complicated… However, despite the tension (often sexual) between them, our heroes will have to help each other to avoid cyber-attacks with deadly consequences.

Gabriel is running in all directions, fighting fiercely or even grimacing to complete his dangerous missions… and Vincent Cassel seems to be having a lot of fun! Alison, on the other hand, seems to have the weight of the world on her shoulders (and she probably does), which Eva Green perfectly conveys on screen.

Liaison’s action and fight scenes are simple, effective, and above all, realistic. They give rhythm to the series, which unfortunately sometimes lacks dynamics and progression. We’re sorry, for example, that we didn’t know earlier why Gabrielle and Alison couldn’t save their couple in the past…

A duo of charismatic stars, the series can also rely on supporting roles: Gérard Lanvin, Irene Jacobs, Daniel Francis, Stanislas Merhar and Laetitia Eidou, each with important issues to interpret and defend convincingly.

However, if the suspense remains constant in Liaison, the sequences are impressive, and the cast is five-star, the series may even lack a hint of self-mockery to make it more enjoyable and digestible.

No doubt, fans of Vincent Cassel and Eva Green will still be delighted to find their favorite actors in Liaison. Finally, thriller lovers will probably find their answer after this mystery adventure.
