With the third season just around the corner, we’re putting the 2020 anime series and movie seasons in chronological order. Time to catch up on ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’!

‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’, also known as ‘Demon Slayer’, is one of the most popular anime series right now, and therefore fans of Japanese anime series and movies should catch up with it as soon as possible. Here we tell you in what order to watch the movies and seasons of the series ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’ in case you are thinking of starting from scratch and need a little help.

One of the best-selling manga in the history of the medium and a saga that has broken all records in film and television, ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’ continues to grow without stopping. The story is based on the creation of Koyoharu Gotouge, which began publication in 2016, and immerses us in a world dominated by demons in the Taishō era in Japan, at the beginning of the 20th century.. There we meet Tanjiro Kamado, a teenager who becomes a demon hunter after his family is murdered and his sister, Nezuko, has been turned into a demon. But what if these creatures could be more than just mindless weapons of destruction? What if they could be human again?

While we wait for season 2 of ‘Chainsaw Man’, another of the current phenomena, and we review the best Studio Ghibli movies, we put in order everything there is to know about ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’, that we can find among the best Japanese anime series on Amazon Prime Video.

In what order should you watch ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’

Next we review the chronological order of the series ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’ (in English, ‘Demon Slayer’; in Spanish, ‘Guardians of the night’).

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’, season 1 (2019)

All started here: the first season of ‘Demon Slayer’ has a total of 26 chapters that represent the start of the story. This is where we meet Tanjiro, Nezuko and the rest of the characters, and we accompany the protagonist in his hard training to become a demon hunter within the Demon Extermination Corps. The season first aired from April to September 2019.

    ‘Nightwatch: Infinity Train’ (2020)

The story does not continue with the second season, but with the movie ‘Nightwatch: Infinite Train’, released in 2020. At the time, became the highest-grossing Japanese anime film of all time, demonstrating the overwhelming success of the first batch of episodes. The plot follows Tanjiro Kamado and his fellow Demon Slayer Corps as they investigate a series of mysterious disappearances inside a train that is not infinite, but incredibly long. It turns out that Enmu, the last of the Lower Moons of the Twelve Kizuki, is on board and about to set a trap for them.

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’, season 2 (2021 – 2022)

The next stop in the chronological order of ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’ is season 2made up of 18 episodes and broadcast between October 2021 and February 2022.

Be careful, this season has two very different parts. The first seven episodes are a kind of remake of the 2020 movie ‘Nightwatch: Infinite Train’, which includes some changes such as a new prologue, some added scenes and even a new soundtrack. So could we just skip the movie and go directly to the series? Maybe, but what kind of fan would do something like that?

Thus, in this season 2, we relive the events of the Mugen Train and also add eleven original episodes covering the Entertainment District Arc of the sleeves. Here we do see new material, with Tanjiro and his companions acquiring new abilities.

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’, season 3 (2023)

Next, it would be time to see season 3 as part of the chronological order of ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’, but we will have to wait: it opens in April 2023. What we know for now is that the story will cover what is known as the Swordsmith Village Arc, as we can read in the manga. We will have the opportunity to meet new pillars such as the Pillar of Mist, Muichiro Tokito, and the Pillar of Love, Mitsuri Kanroji. The mission? Tanjiro and his friends must find an ancient and powerful weapon that will help them defeat the most powerful demons.
