Red Rose Review | The teen series manages to create an almost real suspense


Netflix thriller series, Red Rose has arrived in the streaming catalog and conquered the audience with a plot that mixes fiction and reality

New British thriller series on the way Netflix, Red rose blends fiction with reality to tell a haunting story. The production has eight episodes and, although it has a somewhat slow pace (it could easily have five), it is pleasant to show how the improper use of technology can destroy a person’s life.



The first episode features a young woman (Alyssa) who takes her own life after being chased by unknown technology. From then on, the plot focuses on the town of Bolton on the outskirts of Manchester and follows a group of friends, called “Muggles”, who study at the same school and get together to pass the time.

 

It turns out that one of the people in the group, Rochelle (Isis Hainsworth), receives a link to download Red Rose, a previously unknown application, which asks her several questions. Her app grants her some wishes, but for that she has to do what she says. It is from then on that the young woman begins to become disoriented and suicidal.

With this premise the plot begins to develop and the rest of the friends join together to try to find out what the Red Rose is and who is behind it. What seems to be just another series for teenagers, earns good moments of tension, especially to deal with a problem that could happen in reality.

The series does not focus on the supernatural, but on the misuse of the Internet by hackers to end some people’s lives. This application invades the victim’s mobile phone from the moment it is installed and, through it, the criminals follow all the steps of the device owner.

Slow paced but engaging

Rochelle’s death in the early episodes shows that the text of Red rose It will kick into gear and really flow, although it has some dull moments. You twistswhile weak, they are used at the right times, drawing the audience into the story.

The performance of the group of friends also does not disappoint. Even though it is a young cast, Harry Redding who plays Noah, Ashna Rabheru who brings Jaya to life and Ali Khan as Taz give good performances.

The highlight is Isis Hainsworth, who, although she has little screen time, experiences an intense and disturbed Rochelle. Amelia Clarkson also shines as Wren, a major victim of the Red Rose.

A little Saw, a little Black Mirror

Another success of the series is the use of technology (that’s it Black mirror!) to play with their victims. While the “muggles” try hard to figure out how to block such an application, the hackers behind it enjoy playing macabre games with the group, an attitude that can look a bit like the classic Deadly games.

After all, is Red Rose worth watching?

With a storyline that raises an important issue and has a well-written ending, Red rose might appeal to fans of the thriller. Without leaving too many open points, the series has taken care to leave only one open point to incite a possible second season.

Even if it is a production aimed more at an audience of teenagers, who like suspense Panic you can enjoy the work. If you want to give it a chance Red rosenow you can participate in the series marathon Netflix.
