Nicolas Philibert’s documentary, which will be in theaters on April 19, 2023, takes us to L’Adamant, a unique day center: it’s a floating building.
Built on the Seine in the heart of Paris, it welcomes adults suffering from mental disorders, offering them a framework of care that situates them in time and space, helping them reconnect with the world, find a little “boost”.
The team that brings it to life is one of those who try to resist the decay and dehumanization of psychiatry as much as possible. This work invites us to sit down to meet the patients and caregivers who make up their daily lives every day.
After Nicolas Philibert, another French film director was awarded: Philippe Garrel. The 74-year-old artist won the Silver Bear for Best Director for Le Grand Chariot. The film, which does not yet have a release date, tells the story of the romantic and tragic fate of a puppet brother.
In terms of acting prizes, the Berlinale honors actors and actresses regardless of gender. So not ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’, but ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ and Best Actor in a Supporting Role’.
Therefore, the Silver Bear for Best Actress in a Leading Role was awarded to 8-year-old Sofia Otero for 20,000 Species of Bees, directed by Spain’s Estabiliz Uresola. The drama deals with the theme of transcendence in children.
As for the prize for the best actress in a supporting role, it was given to Thea Ere for Christoph Hochhäusler’s film “Until the end of the night”. This German drama follows the character of Robert, a police officer. It will penetrate to disrupt large-scale trafficking.
To gain her trust, he pretends to be in a relationship with a transgender woman, Lennie, but this is too difficult for the homosexual Robert, who is both attracted to and attracted to her.
Additionally, the Grand Jury Prize was awarded to Afire by Christian Petzold, and the Jury Prize was awarded to Bad Living by Joᾶo Canijo. The Silver Bear for Best Screenplay went to Germany’s Angela Schanleck for the music.
Finally, the Silver Bear for Best Artistic Contribution went to Ellen Louwart for her photography in Disco Boy by Giacomo Abruzzi.
