With translation into more than 50 languages, “The Chosen” series enters the Guinness Book

The fifth season of the series “The Chosen” entered the Guinness Book as the most translated streaming production in history.

The new cycle is available in 50 languages ​​with subtitles and 36 with dubbing within the official app of the series.

Mike Kennedy, vice president of marketing for the Come and See Foundation, the organization responsible for funding and translating the production, celebrated the achievement.

“It’s always great to celebrate these milestones when you’re on a journey toward a big, God-sized vision… For Come and See, our mission is to make the authentic Jesus accessible to everyone around the world through The Chosen,” Kennedy said.

The recognition is part of an ambitious project: to ensure that the series is translated for 95% of the world’s population.

Currently, “The Chosen” can be watched in 86 subtitled languages ​​and 58 dubbed languages ​​on the official app.

The translation work involves a vast network of professionals, which gives the extent of the results achieved by the series.

Once filming is complete, a team of linguists, theologians, pastors and biblical scholars enters the scene, carefully adapting each dialogue to the cultural context of each language.

After this phase, the voice actors take on the task of giving voice to the characters in dozens of different languages.

Since its premiere, more than 280 million people in 175 countries have watched “The Chosen” series.

To a large extent, all seasons of production were made possible through crowdfunding, with contributions from 105,000 individual backers or groups spread across 150 countries.

After a pilot in 2017, “The Chosen” series debuted in 2019 as a groundbreaking project in the television portrayal of the life of Jesus of Nazareth, under the creation, direction and coding of Dallas Jenkins.

Set in Judea and Galilee in the first century, the narrative adopts a clear bias by presenting Jesus from the point of view of the people around him, such as disciples, followers, and parable characters.

More than simply recounting biblical facts, the production seeks to construct more intimate dialogues, with detailed cultural contexts and character arcs that delve into the humanity of those who saw Jesus.

Jenkins has already commented in interviews that the goal was to create something that could be “marathoned”, like the usual streaming series, and that also allowed the audience to feel immersed in the protagonists’ journey.

Another difference lies in the financing model: the series has gained great public support and has become one of the largest crowdfunding projects in the history of television media.

On the sales front, in addition to streaming platforms such as Netflix and Prime, cinema releases have been added for some seasons, strengthening the global presence.

As for its length, “The Chosen” was conceived for seven seasons, according to interviews by Dallas Jenkins, who positions season 5 as the beginning of the final stretch and seasons 6 and 7 tackling, respectively, the crucifixion of Jesus and the post-resurrection period.

The series’ cast includes Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, accompanied by Shahar Isaac as Simon Peter, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene and Paras Patel as Matthew.
