“Everything, Everywhere at Once” Breaks Actors Guild Awards Record

The Actors Guild of the United States (SAG) has honored “Everything in Every Place at the Same Time” with four trophies in its annual awards, the SAG Awards. This is a record breaking feat. Until then, never before had a film or series won so many Hollywood star event victories.

Broadcast on Netflix’s YouTube, after the end of the contract with TNT, the ceremony held this Sunday evening (26/2) at the Fairmont Century Plaza, in Los Angeles, awarded Michelle Yeoh, star of “Everything in Everywhere at the Same Tempo” as well as Ke Huy Quan and Jamie-Lee Curtis for Best Supporting Role. Finally, the stars of “Everything and Everywhere at the Same Time” were also elected Best Cast, and transformed the award into a tribute to James Hong, who turned 94 last Wednesday (22/2).

Brendan Fraser, star of ‘The Whale’ rounded out the film award for best actor.

All the speeches were emotional, but Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh drew attention to their awards’ historic milestone as the first Asians to win trophies in their categories. “I think if I speak, my heart will explode,” Yeoh said as he took the stage. “This is for all the girls that look like me,” she proclaimed.

Typically, Actors Guild honorees also win Oscars in their categories, as the majority of voters for both awards are made up of the same people. Last year, the coincidence was 100%, with wins for Will Smith (“King Richard: Creating Champions”), Jessica Chastain (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”), Troy Kotsur (“Heartbeat”) and Ariana DeBose (“Love, Great Love”), not forgetting that “Breakfast” won Best Ensemble before taking the Oscar for Best Picture.

In the television categories, the highlights were Jason Bateman (“Ozark”) and Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus”) in Drama, Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) and Jean Smart (“Hacks”) in Comedy, Sam Elliott (“1883”) and Jessica Chastain (“George & Tammy”) in a miniseries, and the series “The White Lotus” and “Abbott Elementary,” winners of Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama and Comedy, respectively.
