Using super-compact pumps and heat pipes running through the body of the phone, the OnePlus 11 Concept promises temperature drops of up to 2.1℃
As I promised in a series of teasers released in recent daysTHE OnePlus unveiled its latest concept phone at MWC 2023, the OnePlus 11 Concept. The technology that the company demonstrates with this prototype is Active CryoFlux, the first active liquid cooling system to be implemented in a smartphone, promising significant temperature drops that would benefit activities that tend to stress the device, such as playing games heavy and even charge your phone.

Being essentially a OnePlus 11, the main differential of the concept phone is the Active CryoFlux system, which combines two piezoelectric ceramic micro-pumps of less than 0.2 cm³ volume with a series of heat pipes that circulate a liquid coolant through the battery, processor area and other device components. Given the limited space, the operation is quite ingenious, making sure that these copper pipes act as both heat sinks and radiators, gradually cooling the device.

As pointed out by the portals that had access to the phone, the technology does not seem to affect the size and weight of the One Plus 11, but they promise significant benefits. The technology would be able to reduce temperatures by up to 2.1 ℃ under heavy use, providing, for example, 3 to 4 more FPS in games, and up to 1.6 ℃ during fast loading, which would result in a reduction of the total reload time between 30 to 45 seconds.
Unfortunately, the media could not confirm these promises: none of the units shown at MWC actually demonstrated the capabilities of Active CryoFlux. In any case, the feature is promising and could pave the way for more efficient and compact gamer smartphones without the need to excessively retrofit the internal components to accommodate a fan, as is the case with models such as those of Nubia’s Red Magic family.

Other than that, as usual in OnePlus’ range of concept phones, the OnePlus 11 Concept offers an extremely premium look, designed to attract attention. The rear glass is clear, extending to the sides and revealing the heat pipes, which are illuminated by blue LEDs so that the path of the coolant is visible. There is the use of carbon fiber in the body, and the circular camera module has a special finish with a design that used the guilloche technique, seen in luxury watches, as well as enhanced blue illumination.
Complete specifications have not been reported, but considering that the device is based on OnePlus 11, the technical sheet should be almost the same as the traditional flagship. Despite this, it is important to note that there is no prediction of when liquid cooling technology will hit the market – in fact, being a concept, Active CryoFlux may never reach users. At best, the model should inspire innovations in future giant launches.
