Concepts presented by Lenovo at MWC 2023 include smartphones and laptops with rollable displays that stretch and shrink to adapt to user needs
In established segments like mobile phones and notebooks, it’s not every day that you see exotic novelties presented to the public. And, after a few years with foldable smartphones gaining more traction among consumers, the Lenovo seems to be interested in another category of screens: roller blinds. And with that, the brand showcases solid prototypes of Motorola Rizr and Lenovo Rollable Laptop at MWC 2023, taking another step forward in technology presented in October last year.

Motorola Rizr is reborn with the roll-up screen
The first concept demonstrated by the company is a smartphone with a roll-up screen that expands when the user needs it.

In its primary state, the screen offers a compact size of just 5 inches that is easy to operate with one hand. On the back cover, part of the display can be used to view notifications, answer or reject calls, check the time, and even show the camera for who’s being photographed, as well as help use the main cameras for selfies.
With the click of a button, the screen opens and rises, going from 5 inches to 6.5 inches in a 22:9 aspect ratio that allows you to view more content vertically for writing, reading or watching movies, series and videos with more area . .

Thanks to the fold-up mechanism, the front camera and the loudspeaker for calls are hidden under the screen at the top and, when necessary, the screen slides down to reveal both components.
Lenovo also decides to bring back the Motorola Rizr brand, an alternative to the original Razr line produced between 2006 and 2008 with a slider format, where the screen slides up to reveal the T9 format keyboard. If the product is released to the public, we hope it will also be released as the Rizr, following the wave of nostalgia started by the relaunch of the Razr as a foldable screen cellphone.

The rollable screen will also arrive on notebooks
The second concept is the Lenovo Rollable Laptop, a notebook that appears to be a device like all the others in its category, but is distinguished by the screen that stretches, going from a 12.7-inch panel with a 4:3 ratio to a nearly square 15.3-inch display with an 8:9 aspect ratio.
The screen is provided by Sharp and offers a resolution of 2024 x 1604 pixels in common mode and 2024 x 2368 pixels in extended mode.
During CES 2023 from January to Lenovo presented the curious Yoga Book 9i notebook with two separate screens able to be used in the most different ways. At IFA 2022 in September the company also introduced the ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2an ambitious notebook with a foldable 16.3-inch screen.
price and availability
Both products don’t have a release date or much lower price range, but there is a high possibility that Lenovo will sell the products to consumers.
This is because the company has told international media that it only develops concepts it intends to launch. When that happens and whether we’ll have products available in Brazil, however, is something we’ll have to wait and see.
