French football is preparing for a major restructuring as both the federation president (FFF) and the women’s national team coach step down on Tuesday.
Noel Le Graet, head of the FFF since 2011, is under pressure from a legal investigation into alleged sexual harassment and bullying, and a strict audit commissioned by the sports ministry will be the focus of the executive committee on Tuesday.
If he refuses to resign, Le Graet, 81, could be brought before the disciplinary committee of the FFF or the executive committee could force new elections.
“Given the failures in governance, his grossly inappropriate behavior towards women, I can only agree with the report’s conclusion: he no longer has the legitimacy to manage and represent French football,” said Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra , in this month.
Le Graet, who was also criticized when he made derogatory comments about Zinedine Zidane after extending men’s coach Didier Deschamps’ contract until 2026, could be followed by women’s coach Corinne Diacre.
Diacre’s position has become untenable since captain Wendie Renard said last week that she would not play in this year’s World Cup to preserve her sanity.
Fellow athletes Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani followed suit shortly after her announcement, all saying they were stepping away from the national team.
According to a report by French media RMC Sport, Renard will not play for the national team while Diacre is in charge.
