Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition has Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 in the spec sheet and is controlled by very futuristic gestures
A Xiaomi took advantage of MWC 2023 to present its new augmented reality (AR) glasses. This Monday (27), the manufacturer demonstrated the Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition, which brings the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 inside and offers gesture controls. The device is compatible with the Xiaomi 13, which has just been released in countries other than China.
Following other current headsets, such as Ray-ban Stories, the device is offered in glasses format and weighs 126 grams. That is, quite different from Oculus Quest 2, which is a mess that covers all of the user’s vision. Also, there are two cameras on the front.
All this apparatus guarantees facilities for the users. Starting with the connection to the mobile phone, which takes place quickly by approximation thanks to NFC. But the features don’t end there, as the glasses allow you to control the interface with hand gestures, as if you were in the movie. Minority report.
Navigation was presented in a video, posted by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on his Twitter profile. For example, in promotional material, the presenter uses a pinch gesture to position and change the size of the windows displayed on the headset.
“Users can also opt for conventional smartphone controllers, which can be paired and used as gesture or touchpad control,” they explained in a press release.

Xiaomi headphones are equipped with Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1
The connection is cable independent and the device comes with the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 processor. According to Xiaomi, this component helps to offer a wireless latency of around 3ms between the smartphone and the glasses. Regardless, the promised transmission speed doesn’t disappoint either: 50ms.
This means that, even without wires, the glasses carry the content without delay. However, the device has microOLED screens on each side, able to offer well-defined images thanks to the resolution of 58 pixels per degree.
“When the angular resolution or PPD (pixels per degree) approaches 60, the human eye cannot distinguish the granularity,” they said.
The device also supports various apps via Mi Share. With the tool, users can stream videos from TikTok or YouTube directly through the augmented reality headset. The experience is even more integrated through the aforementioned gestures, which can be used to interact with other objects.
“For example, Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass allows users to ‘screen capture’ a typical TV screencast and continue watching on the glasses,” they announced. “In addition, Xiaomi has extracted common operations from smart devices, allowing users to operate devices through AR scenes.”
This second option is also described in the video posted by the company’s CEO. In this case, users can look at a lamp and use their hands to click a virtual button to turn the lamp on or off. The technology also ensures a spatial audio experience, which allows virtual speakers to be connected to the real environment.

AR glasses are compatible with Xiaomi 13
All this firepower can be used on the Xiaomi 13, which received its global release this weekend. But this is not the only device that can be used with headphones: the Xiaomi Wireless AR Glasses Discovery Edition also work with other ready-made devices compatible with Snapdragon Spaces.
“In terms of software support, the glasses are compatible with Qualcomm Snapdragon Spaces, OpenXR and Microsoft MRTK development framework,” they said. “Xiaomi intends to work closely with developers to accelerate the arrival of augmented reality.”
The company did not disclose pricing and availability information. But the company has confirmed that it will offer an attachable myopic clip to cater to users who depend on a pair of glasses to see far.
