The geniuses of animated cinema in Spain make us their list of favorites. ‘Toy Story’ and other Pixar productions top the ranking.
‘Mummy’ was the highest grossing film in Spain last weekend and is already the Spanish production with the best opening so far this year, reaching 1.4 million euros at the box office in its first three days.
The film was created by the same producers and screenwriters as the Tadeo Jones saga, an adventure that we could consider the Spanish ‘Toy Story’. And it is that this saga revolutionized animation in Spain and raised this genre to a new dimension. Not surprisingly, when we ask its creators about the cartoon film that has inspired them the most, they all mention this title. The Pixar factory, in general, is positioned as the Sistine Chapel of this cinema that was born for a child audience and grew to infinity and beyond.
The director of ‘Momias’, Juan Jesús García Galocha, is clear: “I like the traditional ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘The Emperor and His Follies’ and ‘The Lion King’. in 3D, ‘Toy Story’ was the one that opened this world to us, it stuck with me. And ‘Toy Story 3’ touched my soul. I hope they continue to make many movies like this.”
The screenwriter of ‘Momias’ and Tadeo Jones, Javier Barreira, agrees: “‘Toy Story’ was a renaissance, a new way of understanding animation beyond 2D’.
We have also asked Oscar Barberán, who knows very closely the actor who voices both Woody from ‘Toy Story’ and Tadeo and Thut, the new hero from ‘Mummies’. “Saving the wonderful distances of this great film that we have just made together, ‘Toy Story’ broke the mold. When they called me to do that new project and I saw that on the screen I couldn’t believe it. It was spectacular.”
Producer Pedro Solís feels a weakness for ‘The emperor and his follies’. “It is a film that had a vocation for a minor film and it was a huge success. ‘Finding Nemo’ It’s very emotional, and I love the first few minutes of ‘Oops’. That’s when I realized that other registers could be achieved in animation beyond humor. I was surprised to see that they were making me cry without a word.” Like everyone, he also has exciting moments linked to a children’s movie in his biography: “‘SA monsters It is the first time I went to see the cinema with my daughter, when she was 3 years old. She suddenly began to cry because Sulley was flushing the girl’s dolls down the toilet. There are so many moments that have marked us!”, She acknowledges.
Finally, the screenwriter and producer Jordi Gasull goes back much earlier, to the first Walt Disney productions. “He has a lot of merit in what he did. Of all of them, I prefer ‘Snow White’, for being the first. I like it a lot too ‘Finding Nemo’ either ‘Coconut’but do ‘Snow White’ had enormous merit. The vision that Walt Disney had…. It is also the third most viewed film in history, after ‘Gone With the Wind’ and ‘Star Wars’. Not the one that has generated the most money, but the third one that has had the most emissions,” he explains.
