Matthew, 18, is a high school model who has never experienced the pleasures of life until he discovers that his new neighbor, the beautiful and seemingly innocent Danielle, is a former porn star. Matthew will then begin to lose control of his peaceful existence…
Such is the pitch of Girl Next Door. But don’t be fooled by his schoolboy comedic appearance. Straddling between a teen movie and a romantic comedy, the film focuses on deconstructing the “girl next door” archetype with a lot of humor that evokes Risky Business more than American Pie.
Indeed, director Luke Greenfield never strays into vulgarity and signs a feature film of its time (early 2000s), especially thanks to its cast and its strong soundtrack, including artists such as The Who, David Grey, Marvin Gaye, Queen & David Bowie. Elliott Smith or even The Verve.
In the lead roles, we retain the performances of newcomer Emile Hirsch (future hero of Into the Wild) and Canadian Elisa Cuthbert, known for playing Kiefer Sutherland’s daughter in the hit detective series 24 Hour Chrono, which brought her first. Main movie role here.
