Cybercriminal groups create structures that resemble conventional businesses
The salary is high, it can reach up to R$ 5 million a year. And there are days off, holidays. That dream job, though, is in cybercrime. Hackers, developers, administrators and designers are highly sought after by cybercriminals to work for very attractive salaries.
This is underlined by a recent study by an information security company. kasperskywhich analyzed more than 200,000 messages related to “jobs” in cybercrime, spread across 155 Dark Web forums between 2020 and 2022. The peak of messages occurred in March 2022, probably due to the strong economic problems experienced by several Countries due to the Covid -19 pandemic.
The tasks are very specific and usually the payment is for “productivity”, however, with each successful task the team receives bonuses and extra free time.
And have you ever stopped to think about what a “job interview” would look like for this type of job? In fact, they are tests. Applicants must encrypt files, bypass antivirus and always be available online.
No sense of danger
The postings for this type of “job” are no different than what you would typically find on LinkedIn. See this announcement, highlighted by Kaspersky itself:
“We are looking for a candidate to join our team to oversee core recruitment and administrative tasks. Salary between US$5,000 and US$8,500 per month, via cryptocurrencies. You must be good at programming and have web development experience as some of our administrative services require such skills. You have to be motivated and be 100% committed to the team.”
Kaspersky researchers point out that people go down this path for money, but many of them seem to have no real idea of the implications and risks of engaging with cybercriminals. In fact, most seek this path after being fired or unable to find formal work.
