Singer The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) will star in a feature film for the first time. The Canadian musician wrote the script for the upcoming project, the name and plot details of which have not yet been disclosed, as it is under production. According to Variety, the musician will also produce the film.
The cast also included Jenna Ortega, best known for her role in Tim Burton’s Wednesday series, and Barry Keoghan, who played in Dunkirk. The film was directed by Trey Edward Schultz, who directed It Comes at Night and Time to Win: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Schultz and The Weeknd worked on the film in secret for several months, with Ortega and Keoghan signed on after they liked the script.

The film’s crew also included director of photography Chase Irwin, who directed “Blonde”, and composer Daniel Lopatin, better known as Oneohtrix Point Never. The script for the film was written by Schultz in collaboration with The Weeknd and producer Reza Fahim.
With Fahim, the musician collaborated on the production of the HBO series “Idol” (another name is “Idol”). Its premiere is scheduled for June 2023. The creator of “Euphoria” Sam Levinson and The Weeknd worked on the tape – the latter also played the main male role in the show. The main female, in turn, went to Lily-Rose Depp. In April last year, it became known that the series was decided to be partially re-shot and re-edited, removing one of the female characters, as the musician did not like that he was “too gone into the female perspective.” Insiders attribute this to Abel’s conflict with production director Amy Seimetz, who left the project due to creative differences with the singer.
