‘We Have a Ghost’ Ending Explained: Ernest’s True Identity and What Happened to Randy

David Harbor is best known for playing Jim Hopper on “Stranger Things,” for which he lost 75 pounds in season four. But he also has other projects like “We Have Ghost,” his latest hit on Netflix. What happened at the end of the movie?

Who Was Ernest Really In ‘We Have A Ghost’?

During much of the plot of “We Have a Ghost” Kevin and his neighbor Joey try to discover the past of the ghost, whom they call Ernest after the name emblazoned on his shirt.

But they soon discover that the real Ernest is still alive and decide to visit him to find out more. So they discover that the ghost is actually called Randy, and that in life he was the brother-in-law of the real Ernest.

The latter tells them that Randy abandoned his daughter years ago and never came back, so he (Ernest) and his wife took care of the little girl.

But mid-conversation they are interrupted by the government agency, which captures Randy in order to analyze him for his rare ghost status.

They torture Randy and then he remembers his past. He realizes that he did not abandon his daughter, but that Ernest murdered him to stay with her, since he and his wife could not have children.

So he realizes that Kevin and his family could also be in danger, so there is a way for them to escape from captivity.

Explained the ending of ‘We Have A Ghost’.

The real Ernest visits Kevin and his family, expressing his disgust at the young man that if it weren’t for him, the secret behind Randy’s murder would still be a mystery.

Kevin’s parents hear the noise and come down to help the boy, but Ernest threatens everyone with a gun. Little by little it hurts the family members.

He eventually confronts Kevin, and just as he’s about to hurt him, Randy arrives, who found a way to get there (not to mention the ghost took an Uber).

He hits Ernest and Ernest is obviously hit, but soon the villain tries to shoot Kevin again. Frank, the young man’s father, arrives just in time and throws him out of the window.

Kevin is later seen being questioned by government agencies about Randy’s disappearance, to which he replies that he knows nothing.

What happened to Randy at the end of ‘We Have a Ghost’?

Although Kevin does not share anything with the government agency, it can be seen at the end of ‘We Have a Ghost’ that he and his family arranged for Randy to be reunited with his daughter, who is now a woman.

Randy remembers more about his past and shares time with his “little girl”. She also lives with Kevin a bit longer, but that’s when she starts to disappear.

This means that the ghost no longer has anything to cling to in the physical world after solving the mystery of his death and being able to see his daughter again.

Randy disappears for good and soon we can see that Kevin’s family has sold the house where they found the spirit.

As in other paranormal movies that make you wonder about death, in “We Have a Ghost” Kevin wonders if Randy will continue to see them from the afterlife.

He and his girlfriend Joey leave the penthouse, where a light begins to flicker, hinting that the ghost is still watching over their lives even after their disappearance.
