To avoid problems, it is ideal for the taxpayer to collect documents relating to income and expenses
declare the Tax on personal income goes far beyond the official program download from IRS – which this year will be released on March 15th. To fill in the information correctly, or even check the data that comes from the pre-filled form, it is necessary for the taxpayer to have the support of documents that help mitigate any possibility of error. It is worth remembering that filling out the program incorrectly can lead the person to tight links, where it will be necessary, possibly, to rectify the statement, which would involve more work – and “headaches”.
To prevent such problems from happening, the ideal is that, even before sitting down in front of the computer – or mobile phone, with the Meu Imposto de Renda app -, the taxpayer collects the documents relating to income and expenses. This means, mainly: tax returns, which can come from employer companies – cases of people registered in the CLT scheme -, from the INSS, for those who are retired or retired, among others. These reports contain essential reporting information, such as amounts received and withheld at source.
And, if the person received amounts from an individual, such as freelancers providing services, it was necessary to fill in the Carnê-Leão during the calendar year IR 2023, which is 2022. In this year’s program, this data must be imported.
It is also important to note that expenses must have receipts, especially those that are deductible. “You must inform rent, courses, consultancy, if you have invested in private social security, that is, you must collect the documentation”, explains Bianca Xavier, professor of tax law at FGV Direito Rio.
The FGV professor points out that the pre-compiled declaration can contain all this information, saving the taxpayer “work”. However, it should be remembered that this method is not foolproof and it is the responsibility of the person making the declaration to check all the data. If an error is found, you must correct it and, if possible, inform the person who provided the incorrect or incomplete data.
Who must declare IR?
The item most “remembered” by taxpayers remains the same: people who received taxable income exceeding R$ 28,559.70 in 2022 will have to submit their accounts to the tax. This category includes, for example, the salary received by a professional who works under the CLT regime.
And it is always important to remember two points: taxable income is only a part of one of the items that require the delivery of the IR, which means that it is important to look at all of them, so that there is no risk of error; and the data to be completed this year refer to the calendar year – or base year – 2022. The other seven items that require reporting to the Treasury must be verified .
