The text of the Mandalorian crystal from the ‘Star Wars’ series has been translated by a Reddit user
— SPOILERS of episode 3×01 of ‘The Mandalorian’ —
The return of Din Djarin with Grogu in ‘The Mandalorian’ it may have caught you a bit by surprise if you didn’t see ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, but once the initial excitement has been recovered, the Star Wars series once again takes advantage of its little more than half an hour to remind us how condenses an episode packed with action and fantasy to leave us breathless.
Between western-worthy shootouts, space chases and stone castles on cliffs à la ‘Game of Thrones’, you will remember that our beloved Mando carries with him a crystal from the mines of Mandalore as possible proof that their creed’s homeworld might not be entirely destroyed.
Apparently, Mandalore was devastated by civil war, and its destruction was completed by the Empire in the Purge, the so-called “Night of a Thousand Tears”.. The Mandalorians have spread across the galaxy like stars in the sky. It’s a heartbreaking concept and is inspired by the true story of the Jewish diasporain which the Jews were scattered throughout the world after the destruction of Jerusalem in the year 70.
The crystal shown in the Disney+ series contains a inscription in mandalorian language (and, on top of that, the other way around), and a Reddit user has been able to translate it with surprising results. Once again, the Jewish people and the Sons of the Guard have much in common. The text is from the Bible, specifically they are fragments of Exodus 10:5-6and reads as follows (the parts in bold are those translated from the Mandalorian inscription):
“And they will cover the face of the earth, so that no one can see the earth; and they will eat the remains what he escaped from, what What did you have left? of the hail, and they will eat everything tree that grows for you from the field. and they will fill your housesthe houses of all your servants and the houses of all the Egyptians, something that neither your parents not even your grandparents have seen from the day who came into the world until today. And Moses turned and left the presence of Pharaoh.”
The Exodus is the foundation of the Jewish faith, the story of God rescuing a nation of slaves and leading them out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. But the inscription seen in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Episode 1, Chapter 17 – The Apostate, has even greater significance.
All this evokes the story of moses, the man who became the instrument of God in the Exodus, fulfilling the prophecies given 400 years before his birth. Just like the Bible the inscription prophesies the arrival of a liberator who will unite the scattered tribes of Mandalore and lead them to the Promised Landback to his home world. Din Djarin is already technically the leader of the Mandalorians due to the Dark Saber, the holy sword.
Or, perhaps, the series is diverting our attention and the true chosen one is Grogu…
