‘Creed 3’ will be the first installment in the ‘Rocky’ franchise not to feature Stallone. Because?
Each ‘Creed’ movie, the spin-off of the ‘Rocky’ saga, reduces Sylvester Stallone’s screen time. It is something normal, the scriptwriter and actor of the original films is passing the baton to Michael B. Jordan. What is not so normal is that in the latest installment of the franchise does not appear for a single minute. And no, it’s not a matter of giving up prominence, the reason Stallone isn’t in ‘Creed 3’ is quite another.
It has been known for some time that Sylvester Stallone would not appear in the ninth film of the franchise, but the reasons for your decision They are murkier than they might appear at first. Stallone is furious about the distribution of the rights of ‘Rocky’, and the culprit is none other than the producer Irwin Winkler.
It all goes back to 1976, when Stallone had financial problems and sold ‘Rocky’ rights to Winkler for a pittance compared to the revenue that the nine films in the saga have obtained at the box office. And now, which is decidedly the most successful sports franchise in movie history, Stallone does not see a penny for the collection of movies beyond what he is paid to appear in them.
Stallone is more than hurt, and recently made a statement in which he explained the situation: “It’s shocking that I never had the rights, but they told me: ‘Hey, at least you got paid, so what are you complaining about?’ he was furious.”
The actor posted a drawing depicting Winkler as a snake with a knife tongueand has stated several times that he wanted to earn an amount more commensurate with his role in the franchise.
“A VERY flattering portrait of the great Rocky/Creed producer, IRWIN WINKLER, of one of the best artists in the country… ALSO after IRWIN controlled ROCKY for over 47 years, and now CREED, really I would like to have at least a little of WHAT IS LEFT behind my RIGHTS, before passing it on ONLY TO HIS CHILDREN – I think it would be a FAIR gesture from this 93-year-old man… This is a painful topic that eats at my soul, because I wanted to leave some of Rocky for my childrenbut it’s always good to hear from the loyal fans… Keep on thumping.”
So no, Stallone did not really want to continue in the saga. But then…
What happened to Rocky in ‘Creed 3’?
At the beginning of ‘Creed’, Rocky is somewhat distraught. He is still recovering from the physical and emotional wounds of the past, as all of his close friends are gone. Rocky tries to find a purpose; he’s been fighting all his life, and now her friendship with Adonis gives her a new goal. By guiding Adonis to victory, Rocky finally resolves his commitment to boxing completely. In ‘Creed II’ he shows that he no longer needs sports and has found a new life by reconnecting with his family.
While Rocky and Adonis may still be on good terms, they’re just at different stages in their lives. It wouldn’t make logical sense for Rocky to train Adonis one more time. The student has now become the teacherAdonis has started his own gym and is mentoring new fighters who need the same guidance he needed as a young aspiring boxer.
