The defender was hired by Peixe of Cuiabá; in an interview with L!, he revealed that he is happy at the club
Defender Joaquim was made official as a backup for Santos on 8 February 2023. However, Peixe weren’t the only club showing interest in having the defender: rivals São Paulo were also in contention.
Tricolor spoke to Cuiabá, the athlete’s former team, about the possibility and listened to a request for 4 million euros (about R$ 22 million) for the signing. The negotiation did not go ahead because Dourado refused a loan request from the board of directors of Morumbi’s team. Joaquim preferred not to talk about the subject and appreciated the project presented by Alvinegro.
– To tell you the truth, my managers are in charge of it. I heard about Santos’ proposal, I was happy, we liked the project and we came here – explained Joaquim, in an interview with the reportage of THROW AWAY!. He also revealed his success in wearing the Santos shirt.
– The project presented was very good. My agents and I thought it would be very positive for my career to come to Santos. I am very happy here and have accomplished so far.
In less than a month at the club, Joaquim has four games – all as a starter – and scored a goal against Ceilândia, for the Copa do Brasil. The defender says he has fully adapted to his new club.
– Santos is a giant club, which gives us all the working conditions and this has helped me a lot. I am fully fit and feel very accomplished in wearing this shirt,” he said.

Confident in the work carried out by the Peixe technical commission, Joaquim adopts an optimistic tone for the team’s passage to the quarter-finals of the Paulistan. This Sunday (5), Santos will visit Ituano, at the Novelli Júnior stadium, at 16:00, and will have to score if he wants to earn a position within the group table zone in the Paulista Championship.
Alvinegro Praiano has 14 points in the state tournament and is in third place. Botafogo-SP are second, also with 14 points, and face São Paulo in the group. Red Bull leader Bragantino (17 points) visits São Bento.
– Our expectations are the best possible. Our aim is to qualify and we have had a busy week of work. We are very confident that we will continue in the championship. We have to be serene and put into practice what we are working on in training – said the defender.
