Bolsonaro marketer joins Nunes group

The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), has summoned the marketer who led Jair Bolsonaro’s latest campaign, focusing on the dispute for re-election in 2024 – when he will have federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) as his main opponent, which should be supported by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s PT. The changes around the emedebista aim to strengthen social networks and the search for visibility – Nunes is still unknown to the electorate of São Paulo.

Nunes’ top adviser, marketer Felipe Soutello, was replaced by Duda Lima. The information was released by Folha de S. Paulo and confirmed by Stadium. Even without having signed a contract, Lima has already been called by the mayor, who took over in 2021 with the death of Bruno Covas, to draw up a diagnosis of the future race for the capital.

During a dinner last Monday, it was the turn of Lima to present the results of a survey to the leaders of PL, PP, PSD, MDB, Podemos, PSDB and União Brasil. Survey numbers with 12,000 respondents, according to meeting attendees, point out that Nunes has increased approval and awareness among the electorate.

The presidents of the PL were present, Valdemar Costa Neto; of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab; do Podemos, Renata Abreu; and by the PP, Ciro Nogueira; in addition to the former mayor of Santo André Paulo Serra (PSDB). Nunes seeks to form a coalition with 11 parties.

The mayor’s allies say he was scared by the defeat of Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) after adopting a third-way speech and, therefore, intensified the approach with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicamos), Bolsonaro’s godson.

In an effort to maintain potential right- and center-right votes, Nunes was convinced that it would be productive to build bridges with center-left electorates as well, and that it would be a mistake to try to polarize municipal elections.

The narrative has already been presented: “It is not possible that I am the candidate of the right in São Paulo. The right must have a candidate,” he told the Stadium. Admitting that Boulos should be his main opponent, Nunes hints at the campaign speech. “One invades the house, the other cleans it. Boulos is totally radicalized,” he said.

Boulos is expected to step up his agenda in São Paulo from mid-year. So far there is no team organized to act in the pre-campaign. “I will continue to work as a federal deputy to honor the vote of more than one million people of São Paulo. Part of this job is to monitor the excesses and abuses committed by public authorities, including in the capital of our state,” said Boulos, when questioned on Nunes’ articulation.

The information comes from the newspaper The State of São Paulo.
