Alien: the filming of a new movie begins, we know the story, the director and the actors

As ComingSoon reports, 20th Century Studios and The Walt Disney Company have announced that the ninth Alien film, tentatively titled Alien: Romulus, will begin production in Budapest, Hungary on March 9, 2023.

On the production side, it will be Fede Alvarez, who will be responsible for the screenplay of Rodo Sayagüez, his lifelong accomplice. This is not the first attempt by two Uruguayan friends specializing in horror: we owe them the 2013 remake of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe – House of Darkness (2016). Fede Alvarez has also signed the thriller Millenium: What doesn’t kill me (2018) opposite Claire Foy.

Ridley Scott, the iconic director of the original Alien, will executive produce the film alongside Michael Prue under their Scott Free banner, with Brent O’Connor, Elizabeth Cantillon and Tom Moran serving as executive producers.

In terms of continuity, this new opus would be “unrelated” to the previous films. A fan of the iconic franchise himself, Fede Alvarez pitched the idea to Ridley Scott a few years ago during a casual chat. This eventually led him to call the director to see if he was still interested: then things accelerated.

Indeed, 20th Century decided to produce the film from now on because of the strength of Alvarez’s voice, as the script tells “a really good story with a bunch of characters you’ve never seen before,” according to Steve Asbell of 20th Century.

In this ninth entry in the immensely popular and enduring film series, a group of young people from a distant world come face-to-face with the universe’s most terrifying life form.“, we read in the synopsis of the upcoming drama.

The film will feature Kailey Spahn (Easttown Mare, First Lady), Isabella Merced (Rosaline, Dora and the Lost City), Archie Reno (Morbius, Shadow and Bone: The Grisha Saga), Spike Fearne (Batman, Aftersun), David Johnson (Industry) and Eileen Wu (Far From Home).
