Daredevil, The Punisher, Ghost Rider, Spiderman 2099 and… the walking corpse of Miles Morales?
Of alternative universes the thing is going in Marvel lately. The Avengers, the main group of superheroes from the House of Ideas —with an apology to The Fantastic Four— have never stopped being at the center of everything that is going on in Stan Lee’s cosmos for a moment. However, with so much multiverse, so much variant and so much alternative timeline, there is no one who can guess where the super team will come out these days. Especially in Phase Four and in the recently released Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where we haven’t had a movie with that title for almost four years, although Jonathan Majors, the Kang the Conqueror of the UCM, is already plotting a hypothetical return of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man to face his villain in avengers 5. But if it seems to you that he lore of the Marvel movies and series is getting complicated, wait until you dip a little toe into that raging sea that is the world of comics. In the pages of the comics, Marvel has introduced a new team of Avengers with some of the most brutal superheroes in its catalogue. And we’ve lost count of how many different Avengers formations are there already.
Daredevil, The Punisher, Ghost Rider, Spiderman 2099 and… the walking corpse of Miles Morales? The Wildest Avengers Team in Marvel History
You’ve probably never heard of the Savage Avengers. And it is normal, since they are an eccentric group even within the set of fictional universes where the Marvel comics take place. The alienation, one of the strangest in the publisher’s history, was born in 2019, when the label reacquired the license for the Conan the Barbarian comics. To get all the goo out of the character that Schwarzenegger brought to life in the movies, Marvel created a series of comics called savage avengersin which the Barbarian combined his sword with the superpowers of some of the most controversial anti-heroes and vigilantes in the house, such as Wolverine, Venom, The Punisher, Elektra or Brother Voodoo.
The series, created at the time by Gerry Duggan and Mike Deodato, has undergone a relaunch since 2022 under the scripts of David Pepose and the pencils of Carlos Magno. It has been in the tenth and last number of this second life of savage avengers where Marvel has introduced a brutal new team of Avengers. While traveling in time to the year 2099 to face Ultron, the heroes led by Daredevil (a female version of the masked man, reincarnated as Elektra Natchios) end up freeing the dangerous prisoners that the killer robot and a version of MODOK called DEATHDOK had locked up. . Because extreme circumstances call for extreme measures, the inmates are inducted into the ranks of the group to make up one of the wildest versions of the Avengers to date.
The members that came from the factory were already controversial: Daredevil/Elektra, The Punisher 2099, the 2099 version of Doctor Death, Antivenom, Weapon H, Cape and Dagger, that Deathlok that is actually the reanimated corpse of Miles Morales… Yeah, yeah Well, as if that were not enough, they join them in this wild scene from the latest issue of the comic Spiderman 2099 (the one we will see in crossing the multiverse, along with many other versions of the web shooter), Ghost Rider 2099, Strange 2099 (is that an alternate version of Jean Grey, from the X-Men?), Ravage 2099, Bloodhawk and Lunatica. She goes back to review the cartoon that we have left you above and tell us that it is not cool.
