When Pitch – better known as Crookemitain – tries to attack the children’s dreams, the Guardians decide to combine their powers to save him from danger once again. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman join forces to eliminate the threat.
In their quest, they get the unexpected help of a brand new guardian: the mysterious and impulsive Jack Frost, who doesn’t seem very cooperative at first.
When it comes to the prestigious Dreamworks Animation studios, we instinctively think of the Shrek saga and other successful trilogies such as Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda or even Dragons. But some feature films, although equally successful, sometimes remained unknown to the general public.
It’s a case of Five Legends, which didn’t make much of a splash when it came out in 2012, perhaps confused by certain Avengers with which it shared a similar structure: famous heroes teaming up with a special enemy.
Directed by Peter Ramsey (who would also do a brief tour with Marvel, then work on the excellent Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), this highly effective and exceptionally well-constructed film benefits from excellent animation. A quality that has not aged even after 10 years. Served by a team of ultra-cute characters – and a real villain! – also features epic and inventive fight scenes that rival the adventures of Thor, Iron Man and Captain America.
Let’s not be afraid to say it, The Five Legends is one of the best productions from Dreamworks Animation, the studio whose famous logo it perfectly embodies (a young boy sitting on a crescent moon): you’ll see why.
What will you like…
- The chemistry between the five main characters and the fun team spirit that emanates from their small group.
- Action scenes, as we said, are particularly successful.
- The character of Jack Frost (interpreted in the French version by the late Gaspard Ulliel), complex and moving, and his complicity with the children to protect.

What could be bothering them…
- Of course, the big villain of the film, whose goal is to replace children’s dreams with nightmares. But don’t worry, they will give him back his own coin.
- The evil horse-shaped shadows that Crokemytain uses to achieve his goals.
