Did you like Red Alert? Discover Bao, his director’s short film at Disney +!

Finally available on Disney +, Red Alert is the talented and young director Dom She’s first feature film. But before he could turn on the green light for this film, Pixar first gave him a short film. He did Bao. Invincible.

Რ About?

Living alone with her husband, a Chinese-Canadian woman becomes a mother the day one of her cakes comes to life.

Bao, film script and director Domee Shi. Available on Disney +

What is Bao?

This is eight minutes of concentrated happiness. Bao tells the story of a mother who needs a child and who gives all her love to this little Bao she has created and is living.

With this short film, Domee Shi – directed by Red Alert – stands high in Pixar. He has previously written several screenplays, including Vice Versa, for his first solo project. For this case, he decides to follow a story that is very close to his personal history.

As he explained to AlloCiné during the Red Alert presentation for the press, Bao is very inspired by his mother:

Bao was inspired by something my mother always told me when I visited her. Even as an adult, he would always hold me tight and tell me, “Dome, I wish I could put you back in my womb so I can always know exactly where you are.” And I would say, “Oh, that’s cute, but something scary.” So that was a kind of inspiration for this sweet and scary killer.

Beyond this lovely and disturbing story, Bao marks a real turning point in Dom Shis’s career. Bao, who first appeared in 2018 as the first part of the movie The Incredibles 2, had an unusual fate. In December 2018, Disney for the first time in its history decided to publish it on YouTube for free.

The adventure does not stop here since Bao won the 2019 Oscar for Best Short Animated Feature!
