What happened to Rita Skeeter after ‘The Deathly Hallows’?
Is it possible that JK Rowling has been a witch infiltrating the muggle universe all this time? Is she really the famous wizarding world journalist, Rita Skeeter? No, we have not lost the case. These questions have already been asked by numerous fans in recent years, and there is a whole theory developed around this idea. We explain it to you!
Rita Skeeter first appears in the fourth book of the ‘Harry Potter’ saga whenin his mission to report all the events that occur in the Triwizard Tournament (four in this case), arrives at Hogwarts and begins to publish sensational articles about the contestants in the event.
Throughout the following novels (and movies), we will learn more about Skeeter, although she is not exactly a recurring character. The most relevant is the publication of his book, ‘The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore’, which is referenced in the seventh novel. In it, the journalist from ‘The Daily Prophet’ unearths the best kept secrets of the recently deceased headmaster of Hogwarts. But, what does this have to do with JK Rowling?

It all begins with the outcome of Rita, after what happened in ‘The Deathly Hallows’. When Voldemort is finally defeated and peace is restored to the wizarding world, Rita Skeeter is discredited as a journalist and takes refuge among the Muggles, where she will devote herself to writing children’s books in which she will describe the events that have occurred in recent magical history.
Why does this theory exist? As the author herself has confessed on several occasions, the level of detail that she possesses of her magical world is truly impressive. This ability to “imagine” has made her followers suspicious, who have justified her genius with this idea.
However, the fable also raises different doubts. If it were Skeeter herself, why would she paint such a hateful portrait of herself with such a negative outlook? The fans are in everything and they have also known how to respond to this, alleging a possible “later regret” of the writer for his behavior.

A secondary theory that has been attached to this says that JK Rowling is not Rita Skeeter directly, but that she is related to her. After the journalist fled to the muggle world, she would become a close friend of the writer and share all the information with her. Time later, Rowling would publish it with her name. Thus, the truth about the magicians would be spread, but not under the responsibility of the disowned journalist.
Extra fact: Did you know that Rita Skeeter is a animagus? Yes, the witch has the ability to transform into a beetle. A very clever way of going unnoticed if you want to find out about people’s privacy…
All the ‘Harry Potter’ movies are available on streaming on HBO Max.
