The KION online cinema has announced the premiere date of the short documentary film “Exit” by Maxim and Evgenia Arbugaev, noted at world film festivals and nominated for an Oscar. The picture will be shown in just a couple of days, on March 8. Filming of the project took place during one of the waves of the lockdown and took three months, editing continued for a year.

In the film, brother and sister directors captured the everyday life of a marine biologist Maxim Chakilev, who has been studying the behavior of walruses at the largest rookery on the coast of the Chukchi Sea for about ten years. There he spends months all alone, living in an old, dilapidated house and waiting for thousands of walruses to come ashore. But global warming is taking its toll. Together with the hero of the film, the viewer observes a bewitching and at the same time frightening natural disaster.

For the first time “Exit” was shown in 2022 in the competition program of the Berlinale, then at the BFI London Film Festival. Then the project won the Kosovo Dokufest festival and the American AFI Fest. Russian viewers could see “Exit” at the film festivals “Message to Man”, Beat Film Festival and “Flahertiana”, at the last of which the film received a special mention from the jury.
