The story of serial killer Pedro Rodrigues Filho, known as Pedrinho Matador, will be the subject of a documentary and series directed by Fernando Grostein de Andrade. As the director said Newspaperthe intention is to analyze how a person can become evil, as well as show the man behind the intimidating nickname.
Also according to an interview with Sheet, Pedrinho was the one who sought the director to tell his story. “He told me he had some notebooks of his life and wanted to make a film.”
Grostein also said that, with the help of Pedrinho’s therapist, he was able to understand how “he created an image for his self-defense, to instill fear as a form of survival mechanism.” According to the director, he didn’t kill for money and his mind worked differently.
He grew up in a very violent environment. I was very impressed that he had worked in a cattle slaughterhouse since he was 9… It’s very difficult, and I ended up interested in doing a study on whether people are born bad or if they become bad. And Pedro very vehemently expressed to me the desire to clarify that he did not become that person of his own free will, but as a product of a series of circumstances in his life that made him so.
Neither the documentary nor the series has a release date. The director stressed that he understands how sensitive the subject is and that, just as Pedrinho Matador did not want, the idea is not to victimize him or romanticize the story:
“There are people who say that man is born good and becomes evil. Some say it’s the other way around, and some say it’s a mix of genetics and environment. That’s the kind of discussion we want to provoke.”
