“I want to open a new space. It is a way of saying that you are going to witness someone who is constantly evolving.”
The actress of ‘Creed III’, Tessa Thompson, has revealed what word she refused to say in the new movie of the boxing saga.
Thompson, who starred in the first and second installments of the “Rocky” spin-off franchise, reprized her role as Bianca in “Creed III,” which opened in theaters earlier this month.
Starring alongside Michael B. Jordan, giving life to his character’s partner, Adonis Creed, from ‘Creed’ (2015), Thompson told The Hollywood Reporter that he wouldn’t say a famous word that he used from the first movie.
According to Thompson, I would no longer say “jawn“, a Philadelphia slang word to refer to any type of noun, something that his character explained Adonis “Donnie” Creed, while eating a Philly Cheesesteak, in the first film of the franchise.
Speaking of her decision, Thompson commented that Bianca has evolved beyond words by moving to Los Angeles, and that it was important to portray that change.
“I told them: ‘I am not going to say jawn in this film because we’ve already heard it and we’ve done it. I want to open a new space“, explained Thompson. “Do not say ‘jawn‘ is also a way of saying, within the set, that you are going to witness someone who is constantly evolving.”
Speaking about the fate of the franchise from now on, Thompson admitted that the film directed by Michael B. Jordan leaves the saga open to new interpretations, after revealing that Bianca and Donnie’s daughter Amara has inherited the boxing gene.
“If we think about the character that gives its name to the title… Now there is more than one believe. So I think there are definitely narrative possibilities.“, shared Thompson. “We have something that we collectively want to say, and I think there is still a lot to tell. If the public wants to see it, I think we’d all be delighted to come back.“.
‘Creed III’ is currently available in theaters.
