Jenna Ortega vetoed the original dance of ‘Wednesday’: “Either you cut it or make it hit someone”

The famous viral dance of ‘Wednesday’ was going to be very different from the one we see in the Netflix series. Until Jenna Ortega came along and she took matters into her own hands… for the sake of her character.

‘Wednesday’ was one of the great novelties on Netflix in the past year. It did not have a difficult time becoming one of the best series of 2022. And Much of its success, in addition to the charisma of its protagonist, was, as we well know, a dance that went viral..

Now we know that that famous scene the most famous of the series, it could have been very different from what we saw.

The star of the series and in charge of giving life to its protagonist, Jenna Ortega, recently stopped by Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast to talk about her experience in the first season of the great success that Tim Burton has signed, revealing what that consisted of great dance number in ‘Wednesday’, which went viral and even Lady Gaga recreated it. The scene originally involved a larger production number.

At first it was supposed to be a flash mobOrtega said. She was supposed to start dancing, and then everyone would take notice and start dancing with her. And I vetoed that. Why would she agree to that? I said, ‘Either you cut it or Wednesday hits someone. And so it was done.‘”

Ortega also turned down a choreographer and decided to create the dance herself. (and in two weeks no less). But that wasn’t the only big decision the 20-year-old actress says she made during the series.“I don’t think I ever had to put my foot in a set the way I had to on ‘MiĆ©rcoles,'” Ortega said, even going as far as his decision to sometimes change the dialogue. “There was a line about a dress she has to wear to a school dance where she’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, I love it! I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself.’ And I had to say, ‘No, no way’.

There were moments on that set where I even got almost unprofessional, in a sense, where I just started changing the dialogue.“, he added. “The script supervisor thought I was on to something, and then I had to talk to the writers, they said, ‘Wait, what happened to this scene?’ And I had to explain why I couldn’t do certain things.” As the actress said, it all stemmed from his feeling “very protective” of his character.

You can start Ortega next Friday, in ‘Scream VI’, after having been part of the cast of the previous one, released last year.

‘Wednesday’ is currently available on Netflix and is renewed for a second season.
