In 2013, the Duffer brothers began working on the series Stranger Things, recalling their own childhood experiences in the 80s. To develop the concept, they were inspired by iconic films of the decade, such as Steven Spielberg’s ET, Richard Goons. Donner, or Poltergeist by Tobe Hooper.
After the production of the pilot, the two brothers pitched their project to several studios, which showed no interest, until Netflix smelled future success and finally agreed to go on the adventure.
Shooting began in 2015, the two directors spared no effort to recreate the atmosphere of the 80s, paying special attention to the sets and costumes, with many references to the pop culture of the era, or even to the Arri Alexa camera. Retro tone for the whole series.
For actors, we find on the adult side Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands, Dracula), David Harbor or Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, The Bird).
