‘The Mandalorian’: who is the mine monster? The prophecy that fulfills his appearance

While “The Mandalorian” keeps Grogu’s whereabouts a mystery in the Star Wars sequels, what has been explored is the history and past of the Mandalorian civilization.

Season 3 delves fully into the history and culture of these people through the eyes of Mando/Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who has followed a creed all his life, and Grogu who is already a Mandalorian by adoption.

The first episode of “The Mandalorian” Season 3 explained what happened to Cara Dune, how Grogu returned to Din Djarin and what the bounty hunter must do to regain his honor after taking off his helmet in public.

But it is at the end of the second episode that a monster appears that is perhaps the most important thing to Mandalorian culture, even more so than the Darksaber that gives its wielder the right to rule its people.

‘The Mandalorian’: who is the mine monster in season 3 chapter 2?

In the second chapter of the Disney+ series, Mando and Grogu travel to the planet Mandalore so that the former can immerse himself in the living waters, found in some mines beneath the capital, and thereby clean up his wrongdoing.

However, the planet has been desolate for years since the Empire bombarded it, and many dangers lie on its surface. So Din Djarin is captured by a creature with an organic eye and a droid body.

Fortunately, Grogu is able to fly to the nearby planet and enlist the help of Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), rescue his adoptive father and reach the living waters beneath the mines.

There Dean Jarin begins his ritual to “wash away” his sins, but due to the weight of his armor he falls to the bottom of the water and is saved again by Bo-Katan, although on his ascent they find a mythosaurus, a monster. who was thought to have disappeared..

Why is the Mythosaurus from ‘The Mandalorian’ so important to the series?

As Bo-Katan mentions reading the inscription in the living waters, legends say that a mythical beast lived there and that Mandalore the Great, the first ruler of the planet, tamed the mythical beast.

Mythosaurs are huge dinosaur-like creatures with two large fangs protruding from their faces. Thousands of years ago they inhabited the planet Mandalore until they disappeared.

When the first Mandalorians tamed these massive beasts as a show of their courage and strength, they also adopted the mythosaur skull emblem and made it a symbol of the planet.

The first mention of these creatures was in Season 1, when Mando struggles to ride small creatures, in which the alien Kuiil (Nick Nolte) tells him that he is ashamed of his ancestors because they used to ride mythosaurs.

In the first episode of this season it appears that in the Armory’s forge there is a piece of metal in the shape of a Mythosaurus head decorating the room. Also a skull of these creatures decorates Boba Fett’s armor.

But the greatest significance of the mythosaurs lies in the prophecy the Armorer tells Din Djarin, where he states that one of these creatures will arise to herald a new era for the planet Mandalore.

With confirmation that the mythosaurs are not extinct, everything points to both Bo-Katan and Din Djarin destined to unite the Mandalorians and lead them into a new era of prosperity.

Din Djarin has the Darksaber and if he restores his honor, with the sword he can unite the various factions of the Mandalorians. while if Bo-Katan tames or kills the mythosaurus, she would regain the respect of her people as a great leader.

The two could unite to represent each group of Mandalorians and follow them to rebuild their planet’s glory and end the division that has plagued them since before the Empire.
