An effective and eye-catching Israeli spy series that reminds us of the early days of the homeland, Tehran brings us behind the scenes of Mossad special operations with the chaotic career of agent Tamar Rabinian (New Sultan). An Iranian-born Jewish-Israeli woman, a young woman known for her skills as a hacker, has to go to Tehran to prevent Iran from acquiring an atomic bomb. Tamar’s first mission, who exchanged her identity with a Muslim accomplice, fails and the young woman must find a way out.
Tehran returns for a second season on Apple TV + this year and welcomes the featured actor for his new episodes, namely Glenn Close, in the skin of Marjan Montazer. AlloCiné spoke to the show’s showmates, Dana Eden and Daniel Sirkin, and actors about the challenges of this explosive new season for Nive Sultan and Glenn Close.
AlloCiné: What can we expect this season?
Nive Sultan: This is a different and more personal season than the first. In particular, the mission that my character is facing is much more dangerous and explosive. I think you will continue until the end of the season. The results developed this season will have a much more serious impact than the previous season. The pace of filming has been intense and I think there is new energy that is burning us all this season.
Dana Eden: Expect high-intensity, action-packed moments. I also think the emotional level is enriched from episode to episode. You will also discover the world of Tehran’s ultra-rich children and how they exist against the majority of poor Iranians.
Were the shootings different from the first season?
Daniel Sirkin: We were basically shooting in Athens, which we did a bit of in the first season. This time, thanks to Apple support, we were able to shoot longer with more complex and explosive tricks. We also expect a spectacular chase. In the end, it was the perfect mix between epic shoots and intense intimate moments.
Glenn, how did you get into this show?
Glenn Close: Someone came up with a crazy idea, offered me this role! It came to me vaguely. I watched the first season and found it fascinating. The role of Marjan Montazer was so well written that I could not refuse this opportunity. Coming from the cinema was a completely new experience for me. And it was quite a challenge, especially in Iranian, which I had to learn as well as possible. Finally, I was close to being part of the Apple series, which can be seen all over the world.

What are the important topics in this series for you?
Glenn Close: For me, this refers to a group of people who take every effort to take action that seems right to them. It’s a struggle for what you really believe in. All points of view are different, but all points of view apply equally. There are people who are willing to make the final sacrifice to see what they believe will be accomplished.
Nive Sultan: I remember reading this season’s scripts, I felt very sad because I realized that the message of this series is to show that in times of war everyone loses. There are no winners. Everyone suffers equally. Finally you have to ask yourself what you are fighting for, whether this or that conflict is really justified and really worth it.
Dana Eden: I think this is the most humane study of Israelis and Iranians. Who are they really deeply? I hope this will allow everyone to better understand who the other is and what they are experiencing, what their point of view is. It is also important to understand that even if the conflict is at the governmental level, it is not so at the individual level, at the people level. We have also worked with many Iranian refugees this season, this is something unique for this type of production. It was a fantastic collaboration for us Israelis.
Daniel Sirkin: The theme of truth is important. It is important to show Iran, which we do not see in the news. Show something real and authentic. This is also a TV series about identity. That he was a spy, that he was a traitor to his country. It is important for me to show that there are people behind the headlines.
